Mexico’s National Commission of Hydrocarbons (CNH) announced that 30 blocks will be offered in the country’s second deepwater round on 31 January 2018.

The 30 deepwater blocks, at a total of 70,866sq km, will be from four areas including: the Perdido Fold Belt, Cordilleras Mexicanas, Salinas basin, and the Yucatan platform.
CNH will offer nine blocks in the Perdido Fold Belt, in an area consisting of 1890-2733sq km, and 300-3200m water depth; 10 blocks in Cordilleras Mexicanas in an area of 1967-3099sq km at 200-2600m water depth; 10 blocks in the Salinas basin covering 1853-3254sq km at 400-3200m water depth; and one block off the Yucatan platform that is 4441sq km at 800-3600m water depth.
CNH announced the call for bids for second deepwater round today (19 July) in Mexico City.
One month ago on 19 June, Mexico held its shallow water round, Round 2.1, which resulted in the award of 10 out of 15 blocks. Italian giant Eni walked away as the big winner.
The country’s first deepwater round, Round 1.4, was held in December 2016. The highly anticipated round resulted in eight of the 10 blocks awarded in the Mexican Gulf of Mexico.
