The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Statoil Petroleum drilling permit for well 6407/7-9 S using the Songa Delta semisubmersible drilling rig.
The well, also called Njord NF2, is in production licence PL 107 C, operated by Statoil Petroleum (20% interest) with partners Engie E&P Norge (40%), DEA Norge (30%), Faroe Petroleum (7.5%) and VNG Norge (2.5%).
The well will be drilled about 5km north of the Njord field.
Production license 107 C was awarded on 23 January 2009 in APA 2008. This is the first exploration well to be drilled within the license, says the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
The drilling permit is contingent upon the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to commencing drilling activities.
