Luxembourg-headquartered offshore services company Jan De Nul Group scores a hattrick in Taiwan being successfully awarded the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) of both foundations and subsea cables for the Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm (OWF).
Developed by Macquarie Capital Ltd. and Swancor Renewable Energy Company Ltd., the 376MW Formosa 2 OWF will have 47 Siemens 8MW turbines on jacket foundations in up to 55m water depth, said the family-owned company that provides services relating to the construction and maintenance of maritime infrastructure on an international basis.
Formosa 2 OWF is the third Taiwanese OWF contract for Jan De Nul Group and will have more than three times the capacity of the Changhua OWF and the Formosa 1 Phase 2 OWF.
Under this contract Jan De Nul Group will be responsible for the foundation design, fabrication and installation, as well as for the design, supply and installation of the subsea cables. Construction works are planned to start in 2020 and the wind farm is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2021.

This award not only builds on the recent project success and experience at the Formosa 1 and Changhua projects, but also on our local presence since many years."

Jan De Nul Group has been at work in Taiwan since 1995, offering its services to the offshore oil and gas industry, as well as to the main Taiwanese ports Taipei, Taichung, Kaoshiung and Mailiao. Thanks to this strong and trustworthy presence throughout the past years in the region, Jan De Nul Group will be able to execute Formosa 2 OWF from a local base.

The 376MW Formosa 2 OWF is located adjacent to the 120MW Formosa 1 OWF, between 3.8 - 9.5km off the coast and at 40 nautical miles from the port of Taichung, Miaoli County (North-West Taiwan). The 109.2MW Changhua OWF is located further south.
In planning Formosa 2 OWF, Jan De Nul Group will draw on offshore wind experience gained during the current execution of neighboring projects Formosa 1 Phase 2 OWF for the Formosa Wind Power Co. and the Changhua OWF commissioned by Taiwan Power Co. Furthermore, the Group builds on years of experience in Europe, with offshore wind projects in Belgium, England, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Germany.
