FMC Technologies awarded JDR a contract to design and supply umbilicals and reelers for an intervention workover control system (IWOCS) for Total's giant Egina field development, West Africa.

JDR will provide 20km of JDR IWOCs umbilicals that will be deployed across nine JDR-designed reelers. The project, scheduled for delivery in mid-2014, will be designed by JDR’s in-house engineering teams and manufactured at their facility in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, UK. JDR will also test and pre-qualify the reeler packages in advance of deployment.

Integrated umbilicals and reelers are used by oil and gas operators to monitor and control subsea trees during installation and intervention activities.

Andrew Norman, chief executive officer of JDR, stated: “We’ve had a long and fruitful relationship with FMC Technologies and I’m delighted we could partner once again on what will be JDR’s largest-ever umbilical and reeler order.”

The Egina field is in OML 130, offshore Nigeria. The field—discovered in 2003—is in 1600m water depth, 200km off Port Harcourt, and 20km southwest of the Akpo field, on the same license.
