Seaway Heavy Lifting has completed the installation of the 3300-tonne transformer topside of the WindMW Meerwind project.

The installation took place in 23m water depth in the German Bight on 3 April. Seaway Heavy Lifting performed the lift on DP with its crane vessel Oleg Strashnov. With the topside installation finished, the wind farm is completed.

The Meerwind offshore wind farm has a capacity of 288MW, consisting 80, 3.6MW wind turbines. Seaway Heavy Lifting performed the transport and installation of transition pieces, the transformer topside as well as the jacket for WindMW.

The Meerwind project started for Seaway Heavy Lifting in September 2011 and the offshore installation part of the transition pieces and the jacket took place in the second quarter of 2013.

Seaway Heavy Lifting’s COO Peter de Bree says: “This is our first job in the North Sea after having been out of the North Sea for six months. Thanks to the weather and very good preparations by both WindMW and the Seaway Heavy Lifting team, we had the topside installed within 24 hours after arriving back in the North Sea.”
