Wood Group Kenny (WGK) will provide technical advisory services for carbon capture and storage (CCS) policies, as well as potential projects across the UK, as part of a framework agreement with the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC).

The four year agreement will see WGK support DECC to ensure UK CCS energy policies are underpinned by robust technical evidence and provide independent advice on the technical understanding and review of CCS developments.

WGK’s previous experience in CCS includes the Peterhead Carbon Capture and Storage project being developed by Shell and Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE).

Bob MacDonald, CEO of Wood Group Kenny, said: “This contract award demonstrates how we apply our extensive engineering expertise to diverse markets. Utilizing our knowledge in CO2 and CCS projects, we are positioned at the forefront of this sector and look forward to supporting DECC in this field.”

WGK has been appointed by DECC as one of six technical specialists. Under the technical specialist framework, engineering experts will be provided from across Wood Group specialities as required.

Specific areas of consideration within the scope of technical insight and design review will include: carbon capture, transport and storage; power generation solutions and novel technology, process and materials for CCS projects.

In 2014, WGK was awarded the front end engineering design (FEED) for the subsea and pipeline element of the Peterhead CCS project in Aberdeenshire. It is the world's first full-chain CCS project on a gas-fired power station, being developed by Shell, with strategic support from Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE).
