French cables firm Nexans has been selected to supply the cabling for Total's deep water Egina floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
The vessel is being built by Samsung Heavy Industries under a Euro 2.8 billion turnkey contract - its largest FPSO contract to date.
This project represents more than 2200 km of power, instrumentation and control to service the FPSO platform, which will be stationed on the Egina field 130km off the coast of Nigeria, in 1750m water depth, once complete.
The cables are specially designed to prevent gas leakages, making them much safer for use in flammable or high-risk environments. This means that the project is able to comply with local fire safety regulations and meet the strict technical specifications for IEC standards and Bureau Veritas certificate, says Nexans.
The 330m-long, 61m-beam FPSO, operated by TOTAL, will be operational from 2017. The FPSO's storage capacity will be 2.3 MMbo.
