Tidal energy developer Atlantis Resources is on track to first power from its MeyGen project offshore Scotland by the end of the year completing foundation installation work.
All four turbine foundations were installed at the project site in the Pentland Firth. they were installed using Geosea's Neptune jackup vessel, which has been demobilized from the project site.
"This offshore operation was a resounding success and importantly has validated the use of jack up vessels for the purpose of installing tidal turbine foundations offshore in high flow locations," says Atlantis. "The use of a jackup rig for the installations is significant for the future of the industry offering a flexible and fast installation solution."
Next, the turbines will be installed and connected to the grid in time for first power delivery from the world's largest tidal power project by the end of the year, says Atlantis.
