UK-based basement explorer Hurricane Energy has spudded its latest well West of Shetland.
The firm, which recently completed the successful Lancaster 7 appraisal spudded the Lincoln well on 8 November, the firm said.
The Lincoln well, being drilled using the Transocean Spitsbergen semisubmersible drilling rig, is targeting a basement prospect geologically similar to Lancaster, which is 9km from Lincoln and could mean Lincoln could be developed as a future tie-back to the Lancaster development.
A competent person's report (CPR) identified 150 MMbbl P50 prospective resources in the Lincoln field. Following its pilot well on Lancaster, Hurricane believes Lincoln could have unrisked prospective resources of up to about 250 MMbbl, "assuming the Lincoln prospect is analogous to the Lancaster field and the presence of oil at 2135m true vertical depth subsea indicates a continuous oil column to this depth.
The company will integrate the result of the Lancaster 6 and 7 wells and publish an updated CPR in H1 2017.
