Oceaneering International will support the design, fabrication and installation of ancillary flowline hardware at Royal Dutch Shell’s Appomattox development in the Gulf of Mexico.

Under the contract, Oceaneering will procure and install pre-lay and post-lay crossing mattresses, flowline jumper fabrication and installation and manifold installation. The company also will design, procure, fabricate, and install subsea buoyancy for flowline thermal expansion, Oceaneering says.

Oceaneering expects to use its US-flagged vessel, the Ocean Evolution, for the phases of offshore installation work. Work is scheduled to begin late this year and end sometime in 2019. Oceaneering expects to take delivery of the Ocean Evolution in late 2017.

The company also will provide project management, engineering, remotely operated vehicle services, survey services, subsea tooling and global data solution services to Shell as needed.

Located in the Mississippi Canyon area in 7200ft (2195m) of water, the Appomattox development will initially produce from the Appomattox and Vicksburg fields. Average peak production is expected to reach approximately 175,000 boe/d.

In 2015, Shell made its final investment decision on the Appomattox floating production system development. Appomattox is Shell’s eighth and largest floating platform in the Gulf.
