Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has given Statoil the go-ahead to drill the Gemini Nord exploration well in the Barents Sea.

Statoil will use the Songa Enabler semisubmersible to drill Well 7325/4-1 well in the Hoop area approximately 275km from Nordkapp and 200km from Bjørnøya. Water depth at the location is 447m.

Drilling will start this month and last 19 days.

Statoil was previously given permission to use the Songa Enabler to drill the Kayak well in the Barents Sea.

Songa Enabler was delivered by the Daewoo yard in South Korea in 2016, and is owned and operated by Songa Offshore. The facility is registered in Norway and classified by DNV GL. Songa Enabler was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in July 2016.
