Oceaneering nets US offshore wind contract

US offshore wind developer US Wind has awarded a contract to Oceaneering for high-resolution marine geophysical surveys in 2H 2018 for the Maryland Offshore Wind Project. 

The $2.5 billion Maryland project on the Maryland Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), comprises 16 OCS Lease Blocks extending to about 25mi offshore of Ocean City, Maryland.  

Plans call for installing 187 total turbines in 20-30m water depth, over about 80,000 acres. A substation will collect the energy from the turbines and transmit the electricity to the shore using underwater cables.

The Maryland project is expected to produce up to 750 MW of powerst from Ocean City. US Wind says it is the largest offshore wind farm in the US. The project is anticipated to come online in early 2020, with an operational life expectancy of more than 25 years.
