Maersk Drilling said Edison E&P has signed on its deepwater semisubmersible drilling rig Maersk Discoverer to drill an exploration well in the North Thekah gas field offshore Egypt.

The contract is expected to commence in the fourth quarter this year and includes an additional one-well option.

The Maersk Discoverer is a DSS-21 columnstabilized dynamically positioned (DP) semisubmersible drilling rig, able to operate in water depths up to 3,000 meters.

The rig is currently under contract with BP, also in Egypt, until the third quarter of 2019.
