Leak halts GOM drilling

Published

Sevan Drilling's Sevan Louisiana ultra-deepwater semisubmersiblse drilling rig has temporarily halted operations due to a control system leak on the blow out preventer (BOP), the firm said today (August 18).

In order to repair the leak, it was necessary to temporarily suspend the well in a safe manner and recover the upper section of the BOP to the surface.

The incident occurred at the beginning of August and will result in downtime of more than 25 days in Q3 said Sevan,

The Sevan Louisiana was constructed at Cosco Qidong Shipyard in China. In May 2014, the rig started work in the US Gulf of Mexico under a three-year contract with LLOG.
