Petrobras hits at Lontra

Published

Brazil’s Petrobras discovered gas at the Lontra well located in the Espírito Santo basin offshore Brazil.

Well 4-GLF-42-ESS (Lontra) is at 1319m water depth and lies 81km offshore the city of Vitória in Espírito Santo state, within the Golfinho concession area.

Petrobras says it confirmed the presence of gas and condensates, as supported by log data and cable tests. The reservoirs were identified at 3055m in depth and well drilling operations ceased at 3238m.

Petrobras is the operator and holds 100% of the Golfinho production concession.

Earlier this month, Petrobras also hit a gas accumulation at the Tanganika well in Block BM-ES-21 located in the Espírito Santo basin, 72km off the coast of the Espírito Santo state. The post-salt discovery was made while drilling the 3-BRSA-1259-ESS well at 1043m water depth in the Malombe discovery evaluation plan.

Also operating in the Espírito Santo basin is Norwegian giant Statoil. In March 2014, the Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis (ANP) cleared the company to enter the São Bernardo discovery that was made in April 2013. It proved two reservoir levels with 34 – 36° API oil. Statoil began the appraisal by the drilling of the Montanhês well.
