Aker BP's Hyrokkin well dry

Aker BP's wildcat well 25/4-11 on the Hyrokkin prospect in the Norwegian North Sea has come up dry, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD). 

The well was drilled using the Maersk Interceptor jackup drilling rig, in 122m water depth, about 11km northwest of the Vilje field and 220km northwest of Stavanger.

The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in the Heimdal formation. The well encountered about 70m of aquiferous sandstone in the Heimdal formation with very good reservoir quality, says the NPD, but it was was dry.

The well was the first exploration well in production license 677, which was awarded in APA 2012.

Well 25/4-11 was drilled to a vertical depth of 2372m below the sea surface and was terminated in the Heimdal formation.

The well has been permanently plugged and abandoned. The Maersk Interceptor will now move to drill appraisal well 25/2-19 S in production license 442, where Aker BP is also the operator.
