Allseas inks Nord Stream 2 pipelay

Allseas and Nord Stream 2 signed a letter of intent (LOI) covering the offshore pipelay work for the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline through the Baltic Sea, marking the second major pipelay project that the Dutch heavy weight has entered this week.

According to the terms of the LOI, Allseas will undertake offshore pipelay works for the first line and also provides the option to book capacities from Allseas for the second line up to the end of the Q1 2017.

Negotiations to finalize the contract will continue within this timeline, Nord Stream 2 said.

Other tenders including the near-shore pipelay tenders in Russia and Germany are ongoing.

“This step follows a thorough tender evaluation procedure in the highly specialized offshore pipelay market. We are pleased to have secured the necessary pipelay capacity for our project,” Henning Kothe, Nord Stream 2 chief project officer said. “The Nord Stream 2 team will work in the next weeks to optimize and finalize the awards for both lines. It is a further important milestone in the development of the Nord Stream 2 project.”

Just yesterday (8 December) South Stream Transport awarded Allseas a contract to lay the first line of the TurkStream offshore gas pipeline in the Black Sea, with an option for laying the second line.

In this project, Allseas will lay more than 900km of pipes on the seabed using the world's largest construction vessel, the Pioneering Spirit.

Allseas is said to begin laying the first line in 2H 2017.
