Hyperdynamics nears final Fatala-1 stage

Hyperdynamics Corp. is nearly completed with the top portion of the Fatala-1 well, paving the way for a “potential world-class hydrocarbon discovery” offshore Guinea, West Africa.

The company has placed a 36in conductor casing into the sea floor, drilling a 26in hole to 3829m below sea level.

“We successfully achieved a casing installation of less than one degree off vertical inclination, providing a safe and solid foundation for the installation of the blowout preventer (BOP),” says Hyperdynamics.

The company was able to successfully surface-test the BOP stack, and found all control systems fully functioning.

"I'm pleased to report that we are nearly finished with the top portion of the Fatala-1 well, which is the most difficult and exacting portion of the well at this extreme water depth," says Ray Leonard, president and CEO of Hyperdynamics. "In the final drilling stage, we will drill the 12.25in hole through the interval that we believe holds the potential for a world-class hydrocarbon discovery.”

The company began drilling the well in May, and received a two-year appraisal period extension from the government in July.

Hyperdynamics is the operator and a 50-50 partner in this exploration project with Sapetro.
