Off station planned maintenance and upgrade work on the SeaRose FPSO, which serves Husky Energy’s White Rose oil field off Newfoundland, were completed recently in the Belfast repair dock of Harland & Wolff. Maritime and offshore engineers Harris Pye, contracted by prime contractor H&W to carry out all major topside works including specialist piping and turret system upgrades, reports that its work was completed in under 28 days. Additional tasks during a 24/7 work programme included the installation of a new deepwell pump system and refurbishment of the turret lower bearings and utility swivel seals.
SeaRose was the first FPSO to be dry-docked in the UK in 12 years, and if Harris Pye’s group technical director Chris David has his way it won’t be the last. ‘Working with Harland & Wolff was a very positive experience, and we look forward to developing our relationship, and to working with them again in the near future,’ he said. Harris Pye worked on the earliest FPSOs and FSOs in the 1980s and since those experimental days can lay claim to having been involved in more than 45% of FPSO conversions or newbuilds, David added.
