Tekmar launches J-tube alternative

Tekmar Energy has launched a new cable protection system to help reduce installation time and costs, and minimise associated cable risks onshore.

The TekTube cable protection system is an onshore-installed solution, to reduce project time and complexity offshore.

Tekmar says the system replaces the need for conventional J-tubes, steel pieces taken from the oil and gas industry by the renewables sector to protect power cables as they are routed up a subsea foundation.

Before being transported to an offshore windfarm site, the TekTube system will be secured to the wind turbine foundation, sealed and prepared to be received by a cable installation vessel.

TekTube was developed using the same protection methodology as Tekmar's TekLink system. The Teklink system, which enables the connection and protection of subsea power cables into monopole foundations, has been supplied into more than 24 projects, with over 3000 systems deployed.

TekTube is an alternative to Teklink for jacket, gravity-base and floating foundations.

Tekmar developed the technology at its art research and development (R&D) and manufacturing hub in Newton Acliffe, northeast England.
