UK oil and gas engineering firm FES International has won a US$1.2million (£700,000) contract to supply four diverless bend stiffener connectors to contractor NOV Flexibles. This is FES’ third project for NOV Flexibles this year, with a combined value of almost $5million.

Diverless bend stiffener connectors (DBSCs) are one of the firm’s most successful product lines enabling the quick, efficient and cost effective installation of bend stiffeners on offshore deep sea drilling operations.

The contract covers the supply of semi-automatic DBSCs to be used by Subsea 7 on the Total-operated Martin Linge field, in the North Sea on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The product will be used to connect the bend stiffeners to the floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) in a safe and controlled manner.

FES International has started work on the DBSC contract, which is due to end in January 2015. All assembly and testing of the product will be performed by FES International’s UK-based team in Ashington, Northumberland.

This year FES has also supplied DBSCs to NOV Flexibles for use in the North Sea at the Mariner field, Statoil’s heavy oil development and as part of Subsea 7’s Western Isles Development project.

The Martin Linge field is one of the largest un-developed gas discoveries in the North Sea (Norwegian sector). Oil and gas production is expected to start in 2016, with a capacity of 80,000 boe/d.
