Statoil has been given approval to carrying out various well activities on the Njord field in the Norwegian Sea, about 130km north of Kristiansund.
The Njord field has been developed using a semisubmersible drilling, accommodation and production facility, Njord A, and the Njord B floating storage unit in 330m water depth. Production on the field began in 1997, with the Hyme field also produced through the Njord A facility.
Earlier this year, production was stopped at Njord and Hyme and the Njord production facility was towed to Kvaerner's Stord facility in Norway for extensive modifications to extend its operating life and accomodate a number of new satellite field tie-back developments, including the Snilehorn, Pil and Bue fields.
These, as well as a redevelopment of the Njord and Hyme fields, come under Statoil's Njord Future Project, with production due to start in 2019.
The Petroleum Safety Authoroity has now granted Statoil consent to use Scarabeo 5 semisubmersible drilling rig for various well activities associated with production wells on the field, starting 10 November 2016.
