Dutch marine contractor Boskalis has picked SPT Offshore for the detailed design and installation of 33 suction pile foundations for the foundations of 11 suction bucket jackets for the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm.

The European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) is Scotland’s largest offshore wind test and demonstration facility which is being developed by Vattenfall-owned Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm Limited.

Its jackets will support the world's largest 8.4 MW Vestas wind turbines. Installation is planned for Q3 and Q4 this year.

"The use of suction bucket jacket foundations in conjunction with the very large wind turbines and the use of high capacity 66kV power cables makes this project unique," says SPT Offshore.

Meanwhile, Boskalis has also contracted SPT Offshore for the installation of 174 suction pile foundations for the foundations of 58 suction bucket jackets for a part of Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm Project One, a DONG Energy Wind Power project. The jackets will support 7 MW Siemens wind turbines.
