MCG begins Barents survey

Published

MultiClient Geophysical (MCG) announced another long-offset multi-client 2D (MC2D) survey in the western part of the Norwegian Barents Sea. This survey is situated in the area southwest of the Bjørnøya (Bear Island) where blocks have been awarded in the 22nd concession round. This survey extends our 4x4 km grid acquired in 2011 and will be around 3,400 km.

The survey will cover geological plays from Jurassic and older on the Stappen High as well as proven Tertiary plays in the Vestbakken Volcanic Province to the west.

The M/V Akademik Nemchinov will acquire the data and the processing will be performed by PSS-Geo which has very good track record in these challenging areas.

The Nemchinov will first acquire 600 km further south to complete our Tromsø Basin MC2D before it commences the new survey.

MCG will now have a total of 38,500 km of high quality MC2D in the Barents Sea, of which approximately 32,000 km is a consistent 4x4 km grid for prospect mapping.
