Hejre jacket sets sail

The 8500-tonne launch jacket for DONG's Hejre field offshore Denmark has sailed from Heerema Fabrication Group's Heerema Vlissingen facility in the Netherlands (pictured).

HFG's contract, which was with Technip, covered the procurement and construction of a jacket, pre-drilling wellhead deck, and piles.

The Vlissingen yard started fabrication of the launch jacket in January 2013. The eight-leg launch jacket measures 60 x 35 x 85m, including two buoyancy tanks weighing 400-tonne each installed on both sides to keep the jacket floating after launch. The predrilling wellhead deck weighs 900-tonne and measures 40 x 12 x 10m.

The jacket was successfully skidded onto the Heerema barge H-627 on 22 April, followed by the 900-tonne wellhead deck on 6 May, whereafter the seafastening operation started.

Today, the barge loaded with the jacket and wellhead deck set sail to its final offshore destination for installation by Heerema Marine Contractors.

Drilling will then start, followed by topsides installation in 2015.

Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven, CEO of Heerema Fabrication Group, says: “The launch jacket of Heerema Vlissingen has been successfully delivered as a result of the good cooperation and mutual focus on achieving mechanical completion of the jacket between DONG, Technip, Heerema Marine Contractors and Heerema Fabrication Group.”

The Hejre oil and gas development is located on the Danish North Sea in 70m water depth. It is expected that the platform will be operational in 2015. The Hejre development is operated by DONG with 60% interest, with Bayerngas holding the remaining 40%.
