3D seismic shoot to start off Myanmar

Norway based geoscience firm Dolphin Geophysical has been awarded a contract for 3D data acquisition and processing of 10,000sq km. with Ophir Energy in Myanmar.

The work will start in Q1 with a vessel already in the region planned to tow an industry first configuration.

Atle Jacobsen, CEO commented: "This large seismic contract award adds to our backlog of powerful solutions projects, where Dolphin's cost efficient wide tow configuration is the preferred acquisition solution selected by one of our large repeat customers."

In December, Ophir Energy signed a production sharing contract (PSC) with the Myanmar Ministry of Energy to finalize the award of Block AD-03, offshore Myanmar.

Upon the terms of the agreement, Ophir will be the operator with a 95% interest in the 10,000sq km block located in the Rakhine basin. The block is on trend with the multi-TCF, producing Shwe gas field.

Ophir will reprocess existing 2D seismic data and will acquire 3D seismic data as part of the initial exploration period.
