Statoil to drill Johan Sverdrup appraisal well

Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has given Statoil consent to drill well 16/2-22, an appraisal well, on the Johan Sverdrup field. The consent also applies to a possible sidetrack from this well. The Statoil-operated field, located around 140km west of Stavanger in the North Sea, is under development and production is planned to start in 2019

Drilling is scheduled to begin in December 2016 and estimated to last 30 days. Water depth at the site is around 110m.

The well will be drilled by the Odfjell Drilling-operated Deepsea Atlantic mobile facility. Deepsea Atlantic, a semisubmersible drilling unit of the MODU GVA 7500 type, is registered in Norway and is classified by DNV GL.

Deepsea Atlantic, which was completed in 2009, was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance by the PSA in July 2009.
