Anadarko makes third Colombia discovery

Published

Anadarko has made its third discovery in deepwater offshore Colombia, with the Gorgon well.

The Gorgon-1 well encountered 260-360ft net of natural gas pay, according to Anadarko.

Partner Ecopetrol said the well showed gas presence in two different exploration targets, with preliminary results showing gas intervals adding up to 80-110m.

The new discovery adds to other two discoveries made by Anadarko in the Caribbean southern zone, Kronos-1 (2015, 1584m water depth) and Purple Angel-1 (2017), in adjacent blocks.

New offshore success provides options for the future development of a "gas cluster" where several fields would share the same production facilities, says Ecopetrol.

In February, Anadarko announced the Purple Angel discovery offshore Colombia. It is about 3mi from the Kronos discovery.

Anadarko will now send Fred Olsen's Bolette Dolphin drillship used for the Colombia campaign to West Africa where it will continue Anadarko's exploration and appraisal program offshore Côte d'Ivoire.

Anadarko has a 50-50 partnership with Ecopetrol on Purple Angel. Anadarko holds 100% working interest in the Gran Col area (Blocks Col 1, Col 2, Col 6 and Col 7), where the Esmeralda survey was conducted and Gorgon was found.
