CNOOC Ltd. made a new, “mid-to-large” discovery at Jinzhou 23-2 in Bohai, offshore China.
The Jinzhou 23-2 structure is located in the north part of Liaodong Uplift of Bohai with an average water depth of about 10m.
The well Jinzhou 23-2-3 was drilled and completed at a depth of 1097m and encountered oil and gas pay zones with a total thickness of 68.4m. The oil production of the well was tested around 260bbl/d.
CNOOC says that the exploration success of Jinzhou 23-2 not only demonstrated the structure belt has excellent reservoir quality, but also proved the good exploration prospects in the north part of Liaodong Uplift.
Earlier this month, the company discovered oil in its second Beibu Gulf well, WZ12-10-2, in Block 22/12, offshore China.
The well was drilled to 5216ft, where it intersected granite basement and was then plugged and abandoned on 12 October. Wireline evaluation data confirmed 11m of “high-porosity net oil pay” in the targeted Jiaowei T42 formation, middle Miocene fine sandstones and mudstones.
In addition, CNOOC began production at its Enping 24-2 oilfield in the Pearl River Mouth Basin off the South China Sea.The project is expected to reach a peak production of about 40,000bbl/d in 2017.
