FloaTEC mates hull, topsides for Petrobras' P-61

FloaTEC (S)Pte Ltd successfully completed the mating operation of the topsides and hull of Petrobras P-61, Brazil’s first Tension Leg Wellhead Platform (TLWP) near shore to BrasFELS yard in Angra Dos Reis, Brazil.

The P-61 TLWP, which uses FloaTEC’s ETLP proprietary design, is being built at BrasFELS by FloaTEC (a 50/50 Joint Venture between Keppel O&M and subsidiary of McDermott), will be installed later this year at the Papa Terra field for PPT BV Papa Terra  BV- a Joint Venture between Petrobras and Chevron.

During the topsides-to-hull mating operation, FloaTEC towed the four-column hull from the BrasFELS yard to a deepwater mating hole nearby close to the Angra dos Reis yard, and ballasted it to the required mating draft. The topsides mounted on a specially built float-over barge was towed offshore and positioned over the hull. Upon deballasting, the hull gradually emerged from the water and connected with the topsides via specially designed receptacles and stab-in cones. Once the two structures were successfully connected, the float-over barge was removed from below the topsides completing the offshore mating of the first locally built TLWP for Brazil.
