Tenaris announced that it will provide the TenarisHydril Wedge 623™ Dopeless® and Blue® Riser connections for Shell’s Olympus TLP in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Wedge 623™ connections were designed to comply with recent changes in deepwater operating requirements in the Gulf of Mexico. The new connection is an improved version of the Wedge 523™connection design featuring an additional external metal-to-metal seal and offering unmatched compression ratings (80-86% efficiency) in an integral connection.

The connection comes with the company's Dopeless® technology, which enhances its performance and reliability and provides additional operational, well productivity and HSE benefits.

“Both new connections are based on field-proven TenarisHydril technologies that enjoy extensive track records,” said Julie Mathis, Technical Sales Manager for the US. In the case of the Wedge 623™ Dopeless® connection, we were able to respond to Shell’s technical requirements with a customized product.”

On June 24, 2013, the new casing connection was successfully tested to surpass ISO 13679 CAL IE protocol in Houston.
