Students present energy papers

The Aberdeen branch of the UK's Energy Institute will meet tomorrow night [Tuesday 26] to hear presentation on research carried out by energy students from the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University.

Six students, three from each university, will present papers varying from reservoir modeling to an assessment of efforts by operators to reduce hydrocarbon releases on the UK Continental Shelf. 

One paper, by a subsea engineering MSc student, will present the development of a tool for pipe-roller contact evaluation, using data from Total's CLOV project, offshore Angola.

Another paper, by an MSc safety and reliability engineering student, asks How has industry achieved a significant reduction in hydrocarbon releases?

The presentors are vying for the annual title of MSc Student Best Student Paper, the title of the annual event. The event starts at 6pm at Nexen House, Aberdeen, on Tuesday, November 26. 

The students' papers will be judged by leading industry figures from Aberdeen's oil and gas sector. 

These are: Archie Kennedy, UK managing director & VP - Europe, Nexen Petroleum (UK); Alistair Geddes, president - strategy, resource development & support, Expro North Sea; Gary Smart, CEO, Tendeka; Graham Hayward, managing director, Bilfinger Salamis UK; Mike Horgan, global sector leader - brownfield & asset management, AMEC; Dick Green, managing director - International BU, Wild Well Control; Les Thomas, CEO Ithaca Energy Inc.
