Exploration well 31/2-21S targeting the Gotama prospect, offshore Norway, did not encounter reservoir quality sandstones in the Upper Jurassic main target, says operator Tullow Oil.
The well, in production license 550, encountered reservoir quality sandstones in the secondary targets but these intervals are water wet.
The 31/2-21S wildcat was the first exploration well in PL 550 and was targeting sandstone reservoirs in the Upper Jurassic Draupne Formation as the main target and additional sandstone targets in the Middle Jurassic Sognefjord Formation and Brent Group.
The well was drilled by the Borgland Dolphin semisubmersible rig and 12km northwest of the Troll C platform and 120km northwest of Bergen. The well was drilled into the Lower Jurassic Cook Formation to a total depth of 3217m in 348m water depth and will now be plugged and abandoned.
Tullow operates PL 550 with 80% equity and is partnered by Det Norske (10%) and VNG Norge AS (10%).
