Talisman Energy has confirmed that it has been approached by Spain's Repsol over "various transactions."

Repsol has been reported to have been considering a bid for Canada-based Talisman, Bloomberg reported.

A statement from Talisman said: "There is no assurance that any transaction will be agreed. Until such time as it is appropriate to make a public announcement on any potential transaction, Talisman does not intend to make any further comment on this matter."

Talisman has two core operating areas, the Americas (North America and Colombia) and Asia-Pacific. It is also a joint venture partner in Talisman Sinopec Energy UK in the North Sea.
