Oman's Ministry of Oil & Gas (MOG) has announced an oil and exploration bid round which includes two blocks offshore.
The two offshore blocks 18, 59 are being opened to bidders alongside onshore blocks 43A, 54, 58.
Block 18 is in the north Sohar basin between the Batinah Coast and Makran Acretinanory prism. It covers 21,140sq km in 30-3000m water depth. MOG says about 10,000km of 2D and 2048sq km of 3D seismic has been acquired on the block and three wells drilled in the past, with a number of plays identified.
Block 59 is on the east coast central Oman covering 40,488sq km in 0-3600 m water depth. The block is covered by 8000km of 2D seismic. MOG says several prospects and leads in the area have been mapped on 2D-data.
Oil has been produced in Oman since the 1960s. According to MOG there are 22 oil and gas companies exploring 32 blocks, on and offshore.
The deadline for sealed bids is not later than 31 October 2014.
