Marine Contracting has opened an Australian office in Perth to service the Australian offshore market. The company will also open a new yard to house its offshore equipment in Karratha.

Key services that Marine Contracting will provide include permanent mooring and riser installations, pre-lay mooring for drilling rigs, and rig moving services for jackups.

Marine Contracting Business Development Director Petter Nilsen will lead the company’s expanded focus in Australia, having already helped popularize pre-lay mooring in the country through his previous role as chief executive officer of Viking Moorings (now Viking SeaTech) and head of their Asia Pacific operations.

According to the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association, there are currently US$200 billion worth of new projects under construction offshore Australia. Australia also continues to lead the way in LNG developments despite the recent drop in oil & gas prices, with its exports of LNG increasing 88% between 2005 and 2012.
