Cairn Energy's latest well on the SNE (Shelf North Edge) field offshore Sengal has reached total depth, at 2852m, says partner FAR Ltd.
Wireline logging operations have been completed on the SNE-5 appraisal well, in Senegal's Sangomar Deep block, and drill stem testing has started.
The well will help Cairn define a development concept for the field, which currently centers on a floating production unit, which will act as a hub for further discoveries in the area, with first production estimated for 2021-23.
According to FAR, SNE contains about 348 MMbbl of 1C (P90), 641 MMbbl of 2C (P50), or 1.128 billion bbl of 3C (P10) of contingent resources.
The SNE-5 well is being drilled by the drill ship Stena DrillMAX and together with the follow on SNE-6 well, will evaluate the upper SNE reservoir units, specifically reservoir connectivity and deliverability, by conducting oil flow tests, including interference testing.
SNE-5 is in the southern area of the SNE oil field, about 2km south east of SNE-3. SNE-6 is to be drilled immediately after the completion of SNE-5.
