Halvorsen sends Akal C4 WHRUs to Mexico for Cantarell

Published

Halvorsen Group ASHalvorsen Kanfa-Tec recently finished and shipped four 20MW Circular Waste Heat Recovery Units (WHRU) to Mexico.

The highly efficient WHRUs, in terms of weight and volume, will be utilized by Pemex in the Cantarel Complex in the Gulf of Mexico. The Akal C4 units are recovering maximum heat from the gas turbine exhaust and therefore highly improving the environmental conditions on the platform.

The units were designed to the strictest international regulations in the offshore field, providing the best results in terms of security, efficiency, and lifetime.

Engineering was performed in Norway, including the use of computational fluid dynamics and transient finite element analyses. Manufacturing was done at Motech’s fabrication facilities, a European sister company of Kanfa-Tec, which was able to perform all the non-destructive testing and provide all the surface coatings required. KANFA-TEC managed the shipping of the units to Mexico.

During the course of the work, Halvorsen made improvements to the manufacturing chain and delivered the whole project two months ahead of schedule, in September.
