Well completions were given a workover in the first Simplified Series talk of 2014 in Aberdeen in January.
The talks are held monthly and organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineer’s Aberdeen chapter Young Professionals group.
January’s talk, on well completion design and down hole jewellery, was presented by Michael Heaney, of Benchwhistler Associates, at the Station Hotel in Aberdeen. About 50 professionals and students from various disciplines attended the event.
Heaney started by giving a definition of what a completion entailed, and produced a very simple well completion for an onshore well, as seen in the Middle East. Then he systematically introduced subsurface jewellery and gave a brief description on how it worked and what is was used for. Heaney then went on to show how to design more complex offshore wells, giving two examples and explaining the differences between them.
The Simplified Series originated in Aberdeen in 2012 and is supported by Shell UK Limited. The Simplified Series team welcomes the interest from all fellow industry colleagues who would like suggest a topic for presentation.
The next talk will be given on the 5th of February and held at the Station, Aberdeen from 6.30 PM. The talk will be given by Paul Griffin of Dana Petroleum on the subject of the Western Isles Project.
