OTC14: Wireless downhole data first

French seismic acquisition equipment firm Sercel's subsidiary Metrolog has launched iScope, an industry-first downhole monitoring system for fast, efficient and frequent retrieval of pressure and temperature data during well testing operations.

By deploying iScope, reservoir and well testing engineers can access and obtain in real time a conclusive interpretation of well pressure build-up data in order to optimize the time and capital outlay required for the well testing phase.

Integrating Metrolog’s iQuartz pressure and temperature memory gauges, iScope is deployed as a single element of a standard Drill Stem Test (DST).

At any time, pressure and temperature data measured by the gauges can be sent via wireless technology to an iScope shuttle deployed from the well platform. This simple and cost-effective process enables easy and frequent data harvesting in order to monitor the well testing operation in real time.

Metrolog’s development of this new downhole monitoring tool is a first for the integration of proven wireless data transmission capabilities into its downhole memory gauge technology, said Sercel, which launched iScope at OTC this week.

Pascal Rouiller, CEO, Sercel, says: “iScope is the only cost-effective downhole monitoring system of its kind available for collecting high-definition data during well testing operations. Reservoir engineers can deploy iScope to monitor the reservoir response and interpret the data in real time for timely and informed decision-making. Its launch is an excellent example of Metrolog’s ability to think outside the box and come up with a totally original new solution for reducing the risk and cost of production-related operations.”
