Caterpillar picked for Class B jackups

Published

Caterpillar Oil & Gas says its Cat C175 and Cat 3516B generator sets have been selected to power five high spec Super Class B jackup rigs.

Each rig will be equipped with five Cat C175 generator sets, each with rated power of 1833 ekW at 60 Hz (1200 rpm), for prime power as well as 1x Cat 3516B generator set providing emergency power. The newbuilds are currently being constructed by Keppel FELS in Singapore and the Cat power solutions will be delivered over the course of the next two years. Cat dealer Tractors Singapore Limited (TSL) led Caterpillar’s efforts on the project.

“Cat dealer TSL has delivered outstanding support to Keppel FELS since the Cat C175 power solutions were selected in a previous Super Class B order in 2011, and we’re pleased to continue to collaborate with Keppel FELS on jackup newbuilds,” Shen Yang Lee, Caterpillar Oil & Gas Asia Pacific territory sales manager for ASEAN region noted. "The Cat C175 is the industry leader for jackup rigs in the offshore industry, reliably powering jackup rigs operating around the globe drilling at varied depths.”
