Shell/Centrica OGUK board

Industry body Oil & Gas UK has appointed two oil company operator representatives to its board.

Effective immediately, Glen Cayley (pictured), upstream director, Shell UK Limited, has been appointed vice chairman, representing the operator community.

In addition, Colette Cohen, senior vice-president for the UK & the Netherlands for Centrica Energy, will join Oil & Gas UK’s executive board.

Last week, Trevor Garlick, regional president North Sea at BP, and John Pearson, Group President, AMEC Europe, were formally appointed the co-chairmen of Oil & Gas UK, representing, respectively, the operator and contractor communities.

Malcolm Webb, Oil & Gas UK’s chief executive (pictured below), said: “Oil & Gas UK is privileged to have such high caliber individuals representing the operator community on our executive board. We are fortunate that both Glen Cayley and Colette Cohen are able to take on these new roles – in which they will no doubt impact the future of our industry positively.

“At this point in the life of our sector, we need to see some real change if we are to maximize economic recovery. Whilst current capital expenditure is at all-time high, exploration levels are low, average productivity has fallen and our cost base is increasing. The next chapter for our industry will certainly be different from the past and could well be more difficult, however, by working collaboratively across industry and governments, I believe we can work towards a sustainable future. Oil & Gas UK and its Board of Directors have a vital role to play in all of this, it is encouraging therefore to see our Board further strengthened by these appointments."

Glen Cayley said: “As the UK’s largest industrial investor, supporting some 450,000 jobs throughout the UK – I look forward to supporting the long term health of the UK offshore oil and gas industry, a task which impacts businesses and families across Britain. I am pleased to be working alongside Trevor Garlick, John Pearson and the entire Oil & Gas UK board to strengthen and promote our industry.”

Colette Cohen added: “I am delighted to be joining Oil & Gas UK’s board, at a time when the industry is at a crossroads. If we are to take advantage of the huge potential the UK Continental Shelf still has, we must look at the region with fresh eyes and focus on developing our remaining reserves to maximize recovery. I am looking forward to working with the rest of the Board to ensure the industry does that safely and effectively.”

Glen Cayley joined Shell in 2006 as vice president - Global Exploration, responsible for appraisal and resource maturation. Prior to this, Mr Cayley worked for Exxon for over 25 years. Mr Cayley has played active and leading roles in The Geological Society and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

Colette Cohen is senior vice president for Centrica Energy’s exploration and production business in the UK and Netherlands. Mrs Cohen has over 20 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, spanning a number of technical and managerial roles, in the UK and overseas.
