The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Norwegian exploration and development company, Det norske oljeselskap ASA, a drilling permit for well 2/9-5 S.

Well 2/9-5 S will be drilled from the Mærsk Giant jackup drilling facility at position 56°24’45.50’’ north and 03°55’06.08” east. The drilling program for well 2/9/-5 S relates to drilling of a wildcat well in production license 494. Production license 494 was awarded in APA 2008.

The area in this production license is located in the southern part of the North Sea and consists of the north-eastern part of block 2/9. Well 2/9-5 S is the first exploration well in this production license. 

Det norske oljeselskap is the operator with an ownership interest of 30%. The licensees are Bridge Energy Norge AS with 30%, Dana Petroleum Norway AS with 24% and Fortis Petroleum Norway AS with 16

The permit is contingent upon the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to commencing drilling activities
