Officially launched by Malcolm Webb, CEO of Oil & Gas UK, the new laboratory will provide a range of specialist mechanical and materials testing as well as the most comprehensive weld-testing, weld procedures, training and qualification facilities in Aberdeen.

Supporting both energy primes and leading supply chain customers, the 16,000sq ft facility more than doubles capacity and will be Exova’s North Sea Hub connecting a network of 11 specialist oil and gas laboratories in the UK, Netherlands and Italy.

Mike Pooley, European managing director for Exova said:  “Our new laboratory furthers our growth strategy and extends our provision of technically demanding services to the oil and gas sector. Its strategic location combined with the expertise, capabilities and capacity we can now offer will benefit our customers not just in local and Scandinavian markets, but the rest of the world through the global supply chain.”

Exova currently carries out thousands of tests annually for companies such as: Oceaneering; Shell; Aker Subsea; Rotech Fabrication Limited; Harlen Fabrication Limited; Schlumberger; Wood Group; GE Oil & Gas; and Subsea7.

Additional capabilities, to be introduced throughout 2015, include a new range of non-destructive testing, coating inspection and testing, and large-scale Crack Tip Opening Displacement testing.

The new laboratory will ensure Exova is unique in Aberdeen for its range of weld and welder procedures, including certification to new NACE, the international association of corrosion engineers, standards.
