Island Offshore orders Vard OSV

Norway's Vard Holdings Ltd. has secured a new contract with Island Offshore to build an offshore support vessel based on a Rolls-Royce design.

The contract value is more than NOK1 billion (US$167.7 million). Delivery is scheduled from Vard Brevik in Norway in 2Q 2016. The hull of the vessel will be delivered from Vard Tulcea in Romania.

The Island Offshore Group is a leading provider of services to the offshore industry managing a fleet of more than 30 vessels with an average age of less than four years, currently operating in Brazil, West Africa, Gulf of Mexico, and the North Sea.

Vard, which is owned by Italy's Fincantieri, has delivered more than 30 vessels to Island Offshore so far, in addition to five vessels currently under construction.

On May 19, Vard also secured another contract for the design and construction of one multi-functional, VARD 1 08-design, platform supply vessel (PSV) for Carlotta Offshore. 

The vessel will be 81m-long with an 18m beam and a 830qs m cargo deck area. The vessel will be prepared for standby, rescue, firefighting and oil recovery operations. 

Delivery is scheduled from Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam in 3Q 2015. With this newbuilding, Vard has three vessels under construction for Carlotta Offshore. 

The VARD 1-series comprises a wide range of PSVs designed by Vard Design in Ålesund, Norway.
