E6 is the final field to be developed under the SK308 production sharing contract (PSC). The field was discovered in 1970.

According to Shell, the development concept leverages on existing infrastructure by evacuating gas from E6 to the E8 platform located 16km away and crude oil to D35 located 66km away.

“The development of the E6 field further strengthens Shell’s position in Malaysia,” says Iain Lo, Shell Malaysia chairman. “It will enable Shell to sustain gas supply to Malaysia LNG Tiga Plant and produce crude oil concurrently by 2017.”

Shell is the operator with 50% interest with partner Petronas Carigali who holds the remaining 50%.

Shell Malaysia has interests in 19 PSCS offshore Malaysia and holds between 20-85% in each of them.

In April, Shell encountered a deepwater natural gas discovery at its Rosmari-1 well, 135km off the coast of Sarawak, in the South China Sea in Block SK-318. The well was drilled to a total depth of 2123m and encountered a gas column of more than 450m. Shell operates Block SK318 with an 85% interest. Partner Petronas has the remaining (15%).
