Aptomar gets Goliat oil spill detection gig

International oil spill player Aptomar entered into a service agreement with Hammerfest-based maritime electronics company O.M. Rønning Skipselektronikk to further enhance oil spill detection and combating capabilities at Eni Norge’s Goliat field.

Under the contract, O.M. Rønning Skipselektronikk will provide services and support for the systems and products that Aptomar utilizes at Eni Norge’s Goliat field. The contract is also valid for other Aptomar-systems, both in Norway and internationally.

Aptomar has provided Eni Norge with the marine surveillance and oil spill detection and management system for the Goliat field development. The system is probably the most advanced oil spill detection and management system on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Goliat is the first floating production field development in the harsh environments of the Barents Sea. In response to this, Aptomar and Eni Norge has created a holistic emergency response management system, focusing on rapid detection and controlled combating of a spill, in addition to protecting the safety and integrity of both personnel and assets onboard and around the FPSO.

Aptomar’s field monitoring system on Eni’s Goliat field allows 360-degree surveillance coverage from the FPSO hull outwards, plus the ability to detect small and large oil spills independent of light, wind and weather conditions, and estimate the relative thickness of a spill and where it is drifting. This information is also easily sharable between all onshore and offshore asset, other operators and governmental organizations.

“The contract with O.M. Rønning Skipselektronikk gives us a valuable physical presence in Hammerfest. This will provide even shorter response time and higher service levels if maintenance is required on our equipment onboard the Goliat FPSO, shuttle tankers, Goliat ERRV or PSV vessels in the area,” says Lars Solberg, chief sales and marketing officer at Aptomar.
