DONG's West of Shetland success

Wednesday, July 24, 2013

DONG Energy has made a gas discovery north-west of Shetland after a two-well exploration campaign through 2012-13.

DONG said the Cragganmore exploration well, in Block 208/17, had been confirmed as a gas discovery. The well was drilled using the West Navigator drillship in 673m water.

The Glenrothes well, in Black 208/11 and in 1169m of water,  also drilled using the West Navigator, was plugged and abandoned.

DONG said it would now carry out analysis of the data to determine the commercial viability of the Cragganmore discovery.

DONG Energy’s partners in the exploration wells at Glenrothes and Cragganmore are Dana Petroleum (30% equity), and GDF SUEZ E&P UK (30% equity).

As well as exploring in the west of Shetlands, DONG Energy is a partner in several oil and gas discoveries under development, including Laggan-Tormore, operated by Total.

The Laggan-Tormore gas discovery will produce first gas to the UK in 2014, through newly built subsea infrastructure that DONG Energy also has a stake in.
