Fugro inks ONGC deepwater India study

Fugro has been awarded a geotechnical site investigation contract by ONGC India for the KG-DWN-98/2 project on the East Coast of India.

The purpose of the work is to gather site specific geotechnical and geohazard data to aid in the design and later installation of wellheads, manifolds, platforms, floating platform, storage and offloading vessel anchors, umbilicals, pipelines and flow lines within the field.

Fugro will deploy its deepwater geotechnical vessel, Fugro Voyager, which will perform work in water depths ranging from 50-1500m, commencing before end of Q3 2016.

The fieldwork will be followed by extensive laboratory testing, data analysis, interpretation and integration with previous Fugro acquired AUV Geophysical and Metocean data to provide site characterization reports. Fugro has an extensive deepwater track record supporting deep water field developments offshore India.

Block KG-DWN-98/2 is in the Krishna-Godavari Basin adjoining Reliance's D6 block. It was awarded in April 2000, initially to Cairn Energy.

In May, ONGC's board approved a field development plan for the development of fields falling under Cluster 2 of the deepwater NELP Block KG-DWN-98/2.

Facilities envisaged as part of the project include one gas process platform with a bridge connected living quarters platform for processing gas from free gas wells, FPSO for processing, storage and evacuation of oil/gas from Cluster 2A fields, about 430km subsea pipelines of various sizes from 6-22in, about 151km of umbilicals and 10 manifolds, riser base manifolds and onshore gas handling terminal. In addition drilling and completion of 35 wells (15 oil producers, 12 water injection and eight free gas producers) have been planned.

The project envisages first gas to be produced by June 2019, first oil by March 2020, with overall completion in June 2020.
