Hurricane updates on Lancaster EPS progress, works on schedule

West of Shetland fractured basement explorer Hurricane Energy says work on its Lancaster early production system EPS) floating production unit and turret in Drydocks World, Dubai, are on schedule.

The Lancaster EPS is a two-well tieback to a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facility, Bluewater's Aoka Mizu. It is expected to produce 17,000 b/d and provide data required for a full field development for the 500 MMbbl field.

Hurricane says that, following its arrival in Dubai at the end of September, work to upgrade the Aoka Mizu vessel has started, including removal of the internal turret mooring system and thrusters for overhaul and upgrade.

Meanwhile, fabrication of a new buoy, to which the vessel's turret mooring system will connect, is taking place at the same yard, with major sections including the top cone preassembly and shell plating attachment to the cone module.

All critical components for the mooring are now undergoing fabrication and the first of the 12 chains has been completed, says Hurricane.

A rig contract was signed with Transocean for use of the Paul B. Loyd Jr. semisubmersible drilling rig to complete the already drilled EPS production wells 205/21a-6 and 205/21a-7Z horizontal production wells, starting in Q2 2018.

Hurricane CEO Dr Robert Trice said: "We are pleased to provide an update on operations in Dubai, which are critical components of the Lancaster EPS. Operations remain on schedule for planned first oil in H1 2019."
